What is the Pelling Skywalk?
Opened in 2018, the Pelling Skywalk is known as India’s first glass skywalk. It leads to the Chenrezig Statue, a towering figure of the Bodhisattva of Compassion (Avalokiteshvara), reported to be about 137 feet tall. The complex sits on the hill near Sangachoeling Monastery above Pelling, so the views across the valleys — and to Kanchenjunga on clear days — are wide and dramatic.
Getting there
The Skywalk is a short drive from Upper Pelling, followed by a walk and a flight of steps up to the statue platform. Take it slowly — you are above 2,000 metres, and the climb can feel harder than it looks. Most hotels, including Kaya Gantavya, can arrange a car for local sightseeing.

- This is a sacred site. Dress modestly, keep voices low and walk clockwise around the statue as locals do.
- Photography rules may be restricted near the statue — follow the signs and staff instructions.
- Wear shoes with good grip; the glass and steps can be slippery when damp.
- If you are nervous of heights, you can enjoy the views from the solid platforms without walking on the glass.
- Carry water and a light jacket — it gets windy on the hilltop.
