Pelling weather in winter (December – February)
December is the driest month of the year, and winter mornings are often brilliantly clear — this is when Kanchenjunga views can be at their sharpest. Days are pleasant in the sun, but nights drop to a few degrees above zero. Snow in Pelling town is occasional; higher roads nearby see it more often.

Spring warms up steadily, with highs around 16–20°C. Rhododendrons and magnolias bloom on the hillsides, which makes this a lovely time for walks to monasteries and villages. Rain starts to build from April, usually as afternoon showers, and haze can soften the mountain views — so be outside early.
Pack: layers (a fleece plus a light jacket), a compact umbrella and comfortable walking shoes.
Pelling weather in monsoon (June – September)
This is the wet season: July alone averages over 900 mm of rain. Temperatures are mild (15–22°C), the hills are a deep green and waterfalls are at their fullest. The downside is low cloud that can hide Kanchenjunga for days, and occasional landslide delays on the roads.
Pack: a proper rain jacket, quick-dry clothes, shoes with grip and a spare day in your plan. It’s also the quietest, most peaceful time to visit — ideal for a slow stay with a spa afternoon.
Pelling weather in autumn (October – November)
After the monsoon, the air is washed clean and the skies open up. October and November bring the most reliable Kanchenjunga views of the year, sunny days around 15–18°C and cool nights. It is peak season, so book rooms early — especially around Durga Puja and Diwali.
Pack: a warm jacket for mornings and evenings, sunglasses and sunscreen for the strong mountain sun.
